For freelance writers – How do you start? How to support yourselves?

Hi, I have been fired from my job 9-5 and I think it's time that I began taking steps toward what I really want to do, which is becoming a published writer. I have a media and creative writing some degree focused online volunteering experience and feedback of my greatest teachers in college in my writing. I also know enough about marketing and a copy of SEO and I am a competent web designer. My next step is to launch an advertising website and I would appreciate any links to their sites website to see what to put on it. I'm thinking overall profile, contact, portfolio, services offered, etc. How to start any outside yourself? I know that I to have recourse to the publications but I am thinking of a good website is a decent starting point. I'm also going to have to get another job in the meantime, how manage to support yourself when you are starting? I went to UNI in a full-time job in the city and found time to write, what work do you do? Tips welcome! TY

I suggest you never sign a contract without having a more professional appearance (I am not a lawyer and I am not affiliated with any law firms). Check out other independent websites (Elance?)
